Provincial police in Ontario are reminding parents to check their children’s Halloween candy to make sure the sweets are safe after suspected cannabis edibles were found in a child’s treat bag in a community near Listowel.

The warning comes from the Huron County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after a resident of Wroxeter, a community in the municipality of Howick northwest of Listowel, found gummies in their child’s treat bag believed to contain cannabis.

The gummies were found in a small airtight bag commonly used to store cannabis edibles, police said Monday.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

According to Blackburn News, investigators later reported that after speaking to the individual who handed out the treats, it was determined they were only candy.
