Production For The New Season Of Party Down Is Underway

· Nov 19, 2021

For those who loved keeping track of the Los Angeles catering team on the hit show Party Down, you’re in for a treat. The new revival of the series is back and better than ever, thanks to Starz, who made a six-episode order to the latest installment of the 2009-10 hit comedy series.

The recent announcement of the show’s revival comes after much negotiations with the cast but was completed recently around last week. Familiar facts like Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally will all make their big return for the forthcoming season. Unfortunately, original cast member Lizzy Caplan will not be making a comeback to the new revival due to scheduling complications.

Caplan is incredibly busy after signing on with Paramount+’s reboot of the hit series Fatal Attraction and is also executing her commitment to the FX limited series Fleishman Is In Trouble. Sadly, the FX series shoot overlapped with Party Down’s production, which producers could not move.

When Starz announced Party Down‘s revival back in March, they also listed the executive producers in charge. The original series’ creators and executive producers will return like Rob Thomas, John Enbom, Paul Rudd, and Dan Etheridge. Job Enbom is said to serve as showrunner for the latest season.

In March, at the development announcement, Rob Thomas mentioned that the revival was sparked by the laughs and memories shared at the Party Down reunion back in 2019. He also said that the cast had “such a good time” that they wanted to find ways to get the quad back in action.

The Party Down original series followed a Los Angles catering team made up of six determined Hollywood wannabes who worked endlessly for their tips while keeping hope for their big break. The entertaining aspects of each half-hour episode follow the unlucky catering team through each new event, where they often get caught up in the outspoken guests and their crazy lives.

Lionsgate Television will produce the new season, and Starz’s EVP Original Programming Karen Bailey will oversee the network. The show was initially canceled in 2010 along with another comedy series Gravity, which was the premium cable network’s attempt to cut back on comedy content.

Enraged fans later sparked the show’s return a few years later alongside other series’ like Survivor’s Remorse and Ash vs. Evil Dead. Party Down‘s comeback will join two other Starz comedy series’ Run the World and Shining Vale.
