Wisconsin GOP Governor Candidate Says He’s Open to Marijuana Legalization

Bill Berrien, a manufacturing CEO and former Navy SEAL, launched his campaign this week with comments suggesting a willingness to explore marijuana reform. “I would be open to considering different opportunities there,” Berrien told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He floated the idea of using tax revenue from THC-infused beverages to attract corporate investment, but stopped short of outlining a broader legalization framework.

Marijuana remains prohibited in Wisconsin for both medical and recreational use, making the state one of just a handful that have not enacted even limited reforms.

On the Democratic side, Governor Tony Evers has long supported full marijuana legalization but has not yet announced if he’ll run for another term. The Republican primary field currently includes only Berrien and Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann, who entered the race in May.
