Ohio’s First Adult Use Cannabis Shops Open, As Delaware Gears Up

As promised, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Cannabis Control announced on Monday that it would award its first “dual-use Certificates of Operation” to 98 entities on Tuesday. More certificates are expected to be awarded later this week.Not all of these existing medical cannabis entities began adult use sales this week, though several did so, including multistate operators Curaleaf, GTI, and Trulieve. “Since existing licensees had already met stringent requirements of that program, we anticipated this process to be rather smooth. They had already undergone many of the comprehensive checks as part of that process,” said DCC Superintendent James Canepa in the announcement.You can find the list of entities awarded certificates here.

Another state saw reform in 2023: Delaware.
After years of failed efforts, lawmakers in Delaware legalized cannabis for adult use, as Cannabis Wire reported at the time.This week, the Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner announced that the application window for adult use licenses will open on August 19 – ahead of the planned September 1 date.
