Illinois Cannabis Sales Exceeded $2 billion in 2024

Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in December today, a bit later than normal. They were up 2.7% sequentially to $153.2 million. On a per-day basis, sales fell slightly. The year-over-year growth was -0.4%, worse than the last two months:

Units sold increased by 7.2% from a  year ago, suggesting  lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold rose 3.6% sequentially.

After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales were up 5.4% in 2024 to $$1.72 billion. During December, sales to non-residents were 21.2%:

The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for December showed that sales fell 0.2% sequentially to $23.5 million, which was down 15.7% from a year ago:

 

For December, combined adult-use and medical sales were $176.7 million, increasing 2.3% sequentially and down 2.8% from a year ago.:

Total sales of $1.96 billion in 2023 were up 3% from 2022. In 2024, sales increased 2% to $2.01 billion.
