Study: Hemp Seed Oil Significantly Improves Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) Symptoms
Researchers from the Medical University of Silesia, University of Opole, and De Montfort University in the UK conducted a three-month interventional study on a 23-year-old male with lifelong atopic dermatitis. The subject applied a transdermal emulsion nightly that included Cannabis sativa L. (hemp) seed oil, cholesterol ointment, white petroleum jelly, purified water, and urea. After application, the hands were covered with cotton gloves overnight to enhance absorption through occlusion.
At the end of the three-month treatment period, the patient showed substantial improvement in skin condition, including reduced inflammation, itching, dryness, scaling, and redness. The researchers also noted healing of excoriations and a reduction in lichenification, a thickening of the skin due to chronic irritation.
The findings support the therapeutic potential of hemp seed oil in topical formulations for managing chronic skin conditions such as eczema.
