Georgia Lawmakers Schedule Statewide Hearings on Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies
Chaired by physician and State Representative Mark Newton (R), the committee will evaluate Georgia’s existing regulations around medical marijuana, cannabis-derived medications, and hemp-based products. “Through these meetings, we will evaluate Georgia’s current laws and regulations… I’m committed to identifying ways to improve patient safety while offering clear, consistent guidance for physicians statewide,” said Rep, Newton.
The meetings will be open to the public and livestreamed, with details on specific times and venues to be released closer to each scheduled date.
Meeting Schedule:
Committee members include Representatives Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock), Robert Dickey (R-Musella), David Clark (R-Buford), Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), Spencer Frye (D-Athens), Al Williams (D-Midway), Michael Smith (D-Marietta), and Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville). Robyn Fowler and Wesley Dunn will also serve as non-legislative members.
The committee is tasked with reviewing Georgia’s current medical marijuana and hemp policies and issuing a final report with findings and potential legislative recommendations designed to improve consumer safety and provide regulatory clarity for both healthcare providers and cannabis product distributors.
