Senior Advisor to President Trump’s Never Surrender PAC Says “It’s Illogical That Cannabis Is Classified As More Dangerous Than Fentanyl”
In a post on X, Bruesewitz called the classification “illogical,” noting that President Trump has expressed support for rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III. That move would maintain marijuana’s federal illegality but open the door to expanded medical research. Bruesewitz also pointed out that nearly 70% of Republican voters back Trump’s position. “During the campaign President Trump expressed support for rescheduling cannabis to Schedule III, maintaining its illegal status but clearing the path for more robust medical research in our country,” Bruesewitz wrote. “No brainer!”
Under current federal law, marijuana remains a Schedule I drug—considered more dangerous and addictive than Schedule II substances like fentanyl and cocaine. The Biden administration is currently reviewing a recommendation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to move marijuana to Schedule III.
Bruesewitz, 27, is a rising conservative strategist and co-founder of the political firm X Strategies. He was recently elevated to a senior advisory role in Trump’s reelection effort, overseeing digital messaging and outreach. Trump has publicly praised Bruesewitz and his media firm, which has worked with dozens of Republican candidates and organizations.
President Trump, who previously signaled openness to reforming federal marijuana laws during his 2020 campaign, has yet to take an official position on the current rescheduling proposal. However, as Bruesewitz’s statement suggests, marijuana policy could become a unifying issue among Republican voters heading into November.
Trump’s former Attorney General, William Barr, also stated in 2020 that the federal-state conflict over marijuana laws was unsustainable and should be resolved through congressional action.
