Cannabis Stocks Are Soaring

You’re reading this week’s edition of the New Cannabis Ventures weekly newsletter, which we have been publishing since October 2015. The newsletter includes unique insight to help our readers stay ahead of the curve as well as links to the week’s most important news. We no longer send these by email as we did in the past, but we post this and all of the newsletters on our website here.

Friends,

The Global Cannabis Stock Index has gained 12.4% so far in July, rising from 5.02 to 5.64. It is still down 18.0% so far in 2025. At this, pace, though, cannabis stocks would be up year-to-date before the end of the month.

Here is the action in the 6 days of trading so far in July from the 23 stocks that qualified to be in the index as of 6/30:

22 of the 23 stocks are up, and 7 are double-digit gainers, all up more than 15%. Leading the way is Tilray Brands (NASDAQ: TLRY), which I have liked a lot but not so much anymore. At Seeking Alpha, I wrote about why I downgraded it to Neutral. Note that the company did schedule its fiscal Q4 financials release yesterday for 7/28.

So, why are cannabis stocks up so much? I have no idea. We published no articles this week, and there was no important news last week. Here are some observations of mine:

My guess is that someone is trying to buy the beaten up cannabis stocks. Some of the stocks are up a lot in 2025, but most are down still and almost all are down over the past two years. Some are up a lot, but most are down a lot. Five of these stocks have declined by more than 50% over the past two years, while the S&P 500 has rallied by more than 42%. I have used this rally to raise a lot of cash in my model portfolio at 420 Investor.

Wishing the cannabis stock investors the best, and wishing all readers a Happy 710 Day!

Sincerely,

Alan
