Smart & Safe Florida Raises Over $21 Million for 2026 Marijuana Legalization Campaign
According to new data published today by the Florida Division of Elections, the political committee has raised $21,219,586.60, with the vast majority of funding coming from Trulieve, which has over 160 medical cannabis dispensaries in the state. In total, Trulieve has contributed $21,218,124.60 in a series of donations throughout 2024 and 2025, including $1.03 million last month. The remaining donations all came from individuals. In total, 42 contributions were recorded.
The funding supports Smart & Safe Florida’s ongoing campaign to place a marijuana legalization initiative on the November 2026 ballot. So far, the group has submitted 612,576 valid signatures—roughly 69% of the 880,062 needed to qualify.
If approved by voters, the initiative would legalize marijuana possession and purchases for adults 21 and older, allowing individuals to possess up to two ounces while prohibiting public consumption. Sales would be conducted through licensed MMTCs, including current medical operators such as Trulieve, with additional licenses potentially made available at a later date.
A similar measure in 2024 earned 56% of the vote, falling just shy of the 60% supermajority required for passage.
