Florida Seizes Over 85,000 Illegal Hemp Products in Statewide Enforcement Campaign

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) began “Operation Safe Summer” in June as a coordinated sweep of hemp retailers and manufacturers. The goal is to enforce regulations that took effect earlier this year, including provisions meant to keep intoxicating products out of the hands of children.

In a statement, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson said the state has already pulled tens of thousands of items off store shelves over the past three weeks for violating new child-protection standards.

“Florida will not tolerate the sale of dangerous, illegal hemp products that endanger our children,” said Simpson. “We will continue to aggressively enforce the law, hold bad actors accountable, and put the safety of Florida’s families over profits.”

The new rules reflect Florida’s broader push to tighten oversight of hemp-derived products amid growing concerns about youth access and product safety.
