Report: Cannabis Dispensary and Vape Shop Workers Happiest in the Nation
Cannabis dispensary and vape shop workers are the happiest in the nation, according to workforce management platform Deputy’s Shift Pulse Report. The survey, based on more than 1.5 million anonymized end-of-shift surveys submitted between April 2024 and April 2025, found 91.87% of e-cigarette and cannabis store employees indicated they were “happy” – the highest among the industry sectors included in the report.
The report suggests the “remarkable” positive sentiment “may reflect stronger workplace culture and wage competitiveness in newer, regulated industries that prioritize employee retention as they scale rapidly.”
Catering (90.9%), cafes and coffee shops (89.73%), dentists (88.53%), gyms (89.28%), firearms stores (87.27%), site down restaurants (85.97%), cleaning services (84.31%), other services (83.42%), and childcare and community centers (83.18%) round out the top 10.
Other hospitality workers (8.12%) were the unhappiest, according to the report, followed by hospital workers (8.56%), firearms stores (9.09%), outpatient care centers (9.81%), critical and emergency services (10.50%), other healthcare practitioners (10.59%), doctor’s office/medical clinic (12.04%), animal health (12.14%), delivery and postal services (13.82%), and pharmacies (13.94%).
The report also found wide gaps in happiness state-by-state, finding that Soutth Carolina had the highest Net Happiness Score with 98.27% while North Dakota had a Net Happiness Score of 40%.
