Mississippi Medical Marijuana Report Shows Nearly 50,000 Active Cards, 374 Licensed Businesses
The report, covering Summer 2024 through Summer 2025, found that active medical cannabis cards are increasing by roughly 350 every week. In June 2024, there were about 40,000 active cards; by August 2025, that number had climbed to nearly 50,000, marking a 41.5% increase in just over a year. The state legalized medical marijuana in 2022 after lawmakers approved a measure following years of debate, making Mississippi one of the most recent southern states to establish a regulated program. The law allows registered patients to possess up to 3.5 grams of marijuana per day, capped at three ounces within a 30-day period. Mississippi currently recognizes 25 qualifying medical conditions for enrollment in the program, with chronic pain ranking among the most common reasons patients seek access.
According to the report, Harrison County leads the state in medical marijuana patients, followed by Rankin and Jackson counties.
While patients continue to grow in number, businesses have slightly contracted. The total number of licensed cannabis businesses dropped from 386 in 2024 to 374 in 2025.
The report suggests that Mississippi’s medical marijuana industry remains in a state of transition—growing steadily in patient participation while finding balance in its business landscape.
