Florida’s Medical Marijuana Market Surpasses $1.1 Billion in 2025 Sales, Including $149 Million in August

According to new data provided by the research firm Headset, licensed dispensaries in Florida sold $149.2 million of cannabis in August. This is a notable increase from the $134 million sold in July, but remains slightly below the $155 million sold in April, which remains the high for 2025. Flower continues to dominate sales, accounting for 46% of the total, followed by vape pens at 21%. Concentrates made up 12.5%, edibles captured 11.7%, and pre-rolls represented 4%. The remaining percentage came from other marijuana products. This breakdown underscores how Florida’s patients rely heavily on traditional flower while steadily diversifying into other categories.

Florida’s medical marijuana program was approved by voters in 2016, and the first dispensary opened in 2017. Since then, the state’s tightly regulated system has grown into one of the largest in the U.S., with hundreds of dispensaries and over 920,000 active patients. The law allows patients with qualifying conditions such as cancer, epilepsy, PTSD, and chronic pain to access marijuana with a physician’s recommendation.

Meanwhile, Smart & Safe Florida is working to bring recreational legalization before voters in 2026. The campaign has already submitted about 75% of the valid signatures required to qualify for the ballot, with a February 2026 deadline to complete the effort. If approved, Florida could become the next major state to transition from medical-only sales to a full adult-use market.
