Vermont Cannabis Sales Reach $13.13 Million in July, Year-to-Date Total Tops $82 Million
That figure marks the second-highest monthly total since sales began, just shy of the record $13.15 million set in August 2024. From January through July 2025, the state recorded $82.1 million in taxable cannabis sales, generating $11.79 million in excise tax revenue. The year began with $11.61 million in sales in January and steadily climbed, highlighted by April’s 10.3% jump and July’s near-record total.
Vermont legalized recreational marijuana in 2018, becoming the first state to do so through legislative action rather than a voter initiative. However, retail sales did not begin until October 2022, when the first licensed stores officially opened their doors.
Vermont’s industry has also expanded significantly over the past year. The number of retailers and other licensed businesses filing returns grew from 79 in July 2024 to 106 in July 2025, reflecting both consumer demand and the state’s maturing market.
With monthly sales consistently exceeding $11 million since January, Vermont is on pace for another record-setting year, reinforcing the market’s role as a reliable source of tax revenue for the state.
