With the state’s 7% medical cannabis excise tax, that translated to $3,705,853 in revenue for the month. The new figures bring Oklahoma’s year-to-date marijuana sales to $445 million, resulting in over $30 million in tax revenue.

Despite a decline in registered patients compared to previous years, and despite a mortarium on new dispensary licenses being in place for several years, sales have remained steady, buoyed by the state’s large number of dispensaries and the relatively open framework established when voters approved State Question 788 in 2018.

With the release of the new figures, it’s clear that Oklahoma continues to stand out as one of the country’s largest medical-only marijuana markets, trailing only Florida. All excise tax revenue collected from marijuana sales goes into the state’s General Revenue Fund, helping support essential government services.

At the same time, advocates are pushing forward with efforts to expand access. A campaign is underway to qualify a recreational marijuana initiative for the 2026 ballot, which would allow adults 21 and older to purchase marijuana without a medical card. That proposal is currently available for signing at over 500 locations in over 150 cities.
