Combination of CBD and CBG Resolved Severe Trigeminal Neuralgia and Postherpetic Neuropathy in Case Study

Researchers from the Federal University of Ceará and Christus University Center describe a rapid and sustained improvement after she began using a combination of CBD and CBG. The patient was diagnosed with TN in 2019 and initially managed with oxcarbazepine and low-power laser therapy. Although these therapies offered partial benefit, her condition took a sharp turn in 2021 when she developed vesicular-bullous lesions across the right supraorbital region. Laboratory testing confirmed shingles, and she was subsequently diagnosed with postherpetic neuropathy, a complication that sharply intensified her pain. Despite adjustments to her medication regimen and continued laser therapy, her symptoms remained severe and significantly limited her daily functioning.
By 2023, clinicians introduced a cannabinoid-based regimen consisting of CannaMeds CBD Full Spectrum (3000 mg/30 ml) paired with CannaMeds CBG Isolate (1500 mg/30 ml). Within just 15 days, her pain had fully resolved. This improvement allowed the discontinuation of laser therapy and a reduction in pharmaceutical dosing, with her relief maintained over time.
The authors note that this case adds to emerging evidence that CBD—especially when paired with CBG—may offer meaningful relief for patients with TN or postherpetic neuropathy who do not respond to conventional pain therapies.
