New Mexico Marijuana Sales Reach $45.66 Million in January as Lifetime Total Surpasses $2.1 Billion

New Mexico’s regulated marijuana market brought in $45.6 million in total sales in January across 1.16 million transactions. This is nearly identical to the $46 million sold in January 2025, despite prices down around 10%. Adult-use marijuana once again made up the vast majority of monthly sales, generating $35,752,035.44 across 962,039 transactions. Medical marijuana accounted for $9,908,268.28 from 205,942 transactions. Combined, retailers recorded 1,167,981 transactions during the month, underscoring how frequently consumers are purchasing marijuana across the state.

The transaction data highlights how New Mexico’s market is driven not just by large purchases, but by consistent, everyday buying activity from both medical patients and adult-use consumers. With more than one million purchases in a single month, the state’s retail system continues to show a mature and highly active customer base.

Since launching adult-use sales in April 2022, New Mexico’s market has now generated more than $2.11 billion in total marijuana sales. That includes $1,526,097,774.57 from adult-use purchases and $593,080,532.25 from medical marijuana. Over that time, retailers have processed 47,506,200 total transactions, including 36,197,925 adult-use purchases and 11,881,254 medical transactions.

Medical marijuana has been legal in New Mexico since 2007, while voters approved adult-use legalization in 2021, leading to licensed recreational sales the following year. The continued strength of both segments shows that the state’s long-established medical program remains active even as adult-use dominates overall revenue.

January’s figures demonstrate that New Mexico’s marijuana market remains one of the more consistently active in the region, with strong participation from both patients and consumers driving sales volume month after month.
