Canadian cannabis sales up 20% in Q2 2025 as licensed area expands

The latest sales and inventory figures from Health Canada indicate that total cannabis sales in the medical and recreational markets were up 20% in Q2 2025 (April-June) compared with June 2024.

Dried cannabis continued to account for the largest share of total medical and non-medical sales at 50% (12,901,920 units). This was followed by edible cannabis and cannabis extracts, each at 25%.

Packaged inventory was up 10% from June 2024. Dried cannabis also had the largest share of packaged inventory at 41% (36,024,728 units), followed by cannabis edibles and extracts, each at 29%.

Total packaged inventory held by federal licence holders and provincial distributors/retailers fluctuated, with provincial distributors and retailers holding 38,654,087 units in June 2025. Total sales (medical and non-medical combined) for June 2025 reached 25,825,820 units.

The destruction of unpackaged dried cannabis as a share of production has generally been decreasing, falling from 41% in Q1 2023 to just 10.4% in Q2 2025.
