Maine Marijuana Sales in February Match Last Year’s Total Despite Prices Down 12%

Maine’s recreational marijuana market generated $17,752,264 in sales in February, nearly identical to the roughly $17.8 million sold in February 2025, despite prices falling sharply over the past year. According to data released today by the Office of Cannabis Policy, the average price per gram in February was $6.16, down from $7.02 in February 2025, a drop of about 12.3%. The February price is also the lowest average on record for Maine’s legal marijuana market, continuing a broader trend of price compression even as overall sales remain steady.

The fact that monthly sales were essentially unchanged from a year ago despite that decline in prices indicates consumers are continuing to buy in strong numbers. It also adds to a broader pattern seen over the past two years. Maine’s adult-use market generated about $246.8 million in sales in 2025, following roughly $243 million in 2024, showing modest year-over-year growth even as the average cost of marijuana continued to decline.

Maine voters approved recreational marijuana legalization in November 2016, but the state’s legal retail system did not launch right away. After years of delays tied to rulemaking and implementation, the first licensed adult-use marijuana stores opened in October 2020.

Adult-use marijuana sales in Maine are subject to a 14% excise tax, helping the state bring in over $65 million in taxes over the past two years.
