Legal marijuana sales in Minnesota reached a new monthly high in March, with consumers purchasing around $22 million worth of products and pushing total sales for 2026 to $60 million.
Of that year-to-date total, about $33 million came from adult-use sales and $27 million came from the medical marijuana market, showing that recreational purchases continue to account for the larger share of overall sales while medical sales remain a major part of the industry.
Newly released data also provides an updated look at the state’s licensed marijuana business footprint. There are now 128 adult-use retail sites and 20 medical retail sites operating statewide, along with 49 cultivation sites, 21 manufacturing sites, five transporting sites and three testing sites.
Flower remains by far the most commonly purchased marijuana product, accounting for 47% of all purchases. Concentrates make up 32%, followed by shake and trim at 11% and edibles at 7.9%. The remaining share came from other product categories.
Pricing data shows a notable gap between the medical and adult-use markets when it comes to flower. The average price for a gram of medical flower is $9.54, compared to $13.93 for adult-use flower.
Minnesota legalized marijuana in 2023, with the law taking effect on August 1 of that year and the state’s first adult-use sales beginning in 2025. Under current law, adults 21 and older can possess up to two ounces of marijuana in public and up to two pounds at home. Adult-use marijuana sales are subject to a 15% cannabis tax, plus the state’s 6.875% sales tax and any applicable local taxes.
