Maine Marijuana Sales Top $19.1 Million in March as Prices Fall More Than 10% From a Year Ago
- Maine’s legal marijuana market generated over $19.1 million in sales in March 2026, nearly matching the $19.5 million sold in March 2025 despite falling prices.
- March 2026 saw 389,897 transactions with an average price per gram dropping to $6.10 from $6.87 the previous March, marking an 11% decline.
- Strong consumer demand and increased purchase volume offset the price decrease, keeping overall sales stable compared to the previous year.
- Since legalization in 2016 and the opening of adult-use stores in 2020, Maine recorded $59.87 million in sales and 1.2 million transactions in the first three months of 2026, with a $6.18 average price per gram.
Maine’s legal marijuana market generated more than $19.1 million in sales in March 2026, according to newly released state data, a total that came close to the roughly $19.5 million sold in March 2025 even as average prices continued to fall.
The state reported $19,163,666 in adult-use marijuana sales for March, spread across 389,897 transactions. That marks only a modest decline from the same month last year, showing that consumer demand remained strong despite a notable drop in price.
The average price per gram of bud or flower was $6.10 in March 2026, down from $6.87 in March 2025. That’s a decline of a little more than 11%, continuing a longer trend of lower prices in Maine’s recreational marijuana market. Even with that drop, overall sales remained relatively stable from a year earlier, indicating that increased purchasing volume and consistent customer demand helped offset the lower cost per gram.
Through the first three months of 2026, Maine has recorded $59,870,202 in legal marijuana sales and 1,204,918 total transactions. The average price per gram for the year so far stands at $6.18.
Maine voters legalized recreational marijuana in November 2016, and the state’s first adult-use stores opened in October 2020. State law allows adults 21 and older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, including no more than 5 grams of concentrate. Adult-use marijuana purchases are subject to a 10% sales tax, with additional excise taxes imposed earlier in the supply chain on marijuana flower, trim and immature plants.
