Rhode Island marijuana retailers sold more than $39.6 million worth of products through the first four months of 2026, putting the state slightly ahead of last year’s pace. This is according to new data released today by the Cannabis Control Commission.

According to data from the Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission and Metrc, legal marijuana sales reached $39,605,830 from January through April. That includes $10.19 million in January, $9.32 million in February, $10.03 million in March and $10.07 million in April.

Through the first four months of 2025, Rhode Island recorded roughly $38.1 million in marijuana sales. That means sales are up by about $1.5 million so far this year, an increase of nearly 4%.

The average transaction amount also increased, rising from $34.97 for all of 2025 to $36.27 through April 2026.

Pre-packaged bud remains the state’s top-selling category, with $16.10 million in sales through April. Raw pre-rolls followed with $7.77 million, with vape carts close behind at $6.77 million. Edibles accounted for $4.65 million in sales, while concentrates totaled $1.88 million.

Rhode Island legalized adult-use marijuana in May 2022, with the state’s first licensed recreational marijuana stores opening on Dec. 1, 2022. Adults 21 and older are allowed to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana in public and up to 10 ounces at home. Adult-use marijuana purchases are subject to the state’s 7% sales tax, a 10% marijuana excise tax and a 3% local tax, bringing the total tax rate to 20%.
