A grand opening for legendary rapper Snoop Dogg’s cannabis store in his southern California hometown of Long Beach has been postponed due to security concerns.
Saturday’s grand opening for the 54-year-old rapper’s (born Calvin Broadus Jr.) shop S.W.E.D. (Smoke Weed Every Day) has been postponed due to the overwhelming response the store said it got for the grand opening, per an Instagram post.
“Long Beach showed incredible support for Saturday, more than we anticipated,” the post read for the global entertainer’s second cannabis store in LA.
“With expected attendance exceeding safe capacity, we’ve decided to postpone to ensure we deliver the experience the community deserves: safely, and in the right way.”
Snoop’s team told The Post the decision followed the fatal shooting on March 1st at the opening of the new Marathon Burger in Long Beach, whose franchise is tied to late rapper Nipsey Hussle. One person was killed, two other people were injured in the shooting.
“S.W.E.D. Stores’ first priority is ensuring safety for the community it serves and does not want another incident to occur, which is why the team made the decision to postpone.”
The company said it would be working with the City of Long Beach to make sure the event, when it does happen, is better than ever.
“The energy is real and we’re taking the time to match it. A new date will be announced soon. Stay tuned.”

“Long Beach made me who I am,” Snoop said. “Opening S.W.E.D. in Long Beach is my way of showing love to the community that showed love to me. We’re creating jobs, opportunities, and a space that celebrates the culture.”
It is the rapper’s second weed shop in Los Angeles, with the first near LAX. That shop opened in July 2024.
