Legal marijuana sales in Canada reached CA$471.4 million in March, bringing the nation’s year-to-date total to nearly CA$1.39 billion through the first three months of 2026, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

The March total marks a 6.2% increase from March 2025, when licensed retailers reported CA$443.9 million in sales. It also represents a 7.4% increase from February 2026, when sales totaled CA$439.1 million.

Through March, Canada’s licensed marijuana market has generated CA$1.389 billion in 2026 sales. That’s up from CA$1.290 billion during the same period in 2025, an increase of CA$98.7 million, or 7.7%.

Ontario continued to lead the country in March with CA$181.8 million in marijuana sales, accounting for nearly 39% of the national total. Alberta followed with CA$79.4 million, while British Columbia reported CA$70.9 million and Quebec reported CA$61.7 million.

Other March totals include CA$22.6 million in Saskatchewan, CA$21.8 million in Manitoba, CA$11.6 million in Nova Scotia, CA$9.2 million in Newfoundland and Labrador, CA$7.6 million in New Brunswick, CA$2.4 million in Prince Edward Island and CA$1.3 million in Yukon. Totals for Northwest Territories and Nunavut were suppressed in the monthly table.

Canada legalized marijuana nationwide on Oct. 17, 2018, with the first legal retail sales beginning that same day. Adults 18 and older federally may possess up to 30 grams of dried marijuana or its equivalent in public, though provinces and territories are allowed to set higher minimum ages. Marijuana is subject to a federal excise duty generally equal to the greater of CA$1 per gram or 10% of the product’s value, with provinces and territories also applying their own taxes, markups or sales tax systems.

For all of 2025, Canada reported CA$5.62 billion in legal marijuana sales, with December setting the highest monthly total in the table at CA$508.6 million. March’s CA$471.4 million total remains below that peak, but the market is running ahead of last year’s pace through the first quarter.
