Massachusetts’ legal marijuana stores have sold nearly $667 million worth of products so far in 2026, according to state data current through May 17. That roughly matches the state’s total sales through the first six months of 2025, despite not yet including sales from the second half of May.
Adult-use marijuana sales reached approximately $613 million for the year, including $135.5 million in January, $124.4 million in February, $136 million in March, $137.8 million in April and $79.3 million so far in May.
Medical marijuana sales added another $53.8 million during the same period, bringing the combined 2026 total to roughly $666.8 million.
The numbers continue to build on Massachusetts’ position as one of the largest marijuana markets in the country. Since the start of legal sales, adult-use marijuana retailers have now generated approximately $9.46 billion in total sales, while medical marijuana sales have reached about $1.61 billion. Combined, the state’s legal marijuana market has produced roughly $11.07 billion in all-time sales.
The average price per gram of dried flower as of May 17 is $3.89, roughly 7% less than the $4.21 average a year ago.
Massachusetts voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2016, with the first adult-use stores opening in November 2018. Adults 21 and older may possess up to two ounces of marijuana in public and up to 10 ounces at home. Adult-use marijuana is subject to the state’s 6.25% sales tax, a 10.75% excise tax and a local tax of up to 3%, for a maximum rate of 20%. Medical marijuana is not subject to those taxes.
The latest figures come as Massachusetts’ market continues to post consistent monthly totals despite lower average prices in recent years. Adult-use sales have remained above $124 million in every full month of 2026, with April posting the strongest total so far this year at $137.8 million.
