Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Sales Top $453 Million in Q1, Up 6% From 2025

Pennsylvania’s medical cannabis dispensaries sold $453.3 million worth of products during the first quarter of 2026, marking a 6% increase from the same period last year.
According to newly released aggregate transaction data, dispensaries sold $453,302,829 worth of medical marijuana products from January through March. That’s up from $427,548,280 in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of $25.8 million.
The data shows dispensaries sold 8,396,987 medical marijuana products during the quarter. That total was slightly below the 8,572,012 products sold in Q1 2025, meaning overall dollar sales increased even as the number of products sold declined by about 2%.
At the wholesale level, grower/processors sold $147,703,411 worth of medical marijuana products to dispensaries during the quarter, covering 8,278,976 products. The wholesale total was slightly below the $149,290,616 reported in Q1 2025.
The $453.3 million total was lower than the $475.2 million sold in Q4 2025, but it still represents one of the stronger quarters for Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana market since the program launched. Quarterly sales have remained above $400 million since the beginning of 2024.
Pennsylvania legalized medical marijuana in 2016, with the state’s first dispensaries opening in February 2018. The state does not allow recreational marijuana sales. Patients and caregivers may purchase up to a 90-day supply, defined by the state as up to 192 medical marijuana units. Pennsylvania does not apply a retail sales tax to medical marijuana, but grower/processors pay a 5% tax on gross receipts from sales to dispensaries.
