According to data from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, there was $19,567,452 in adult-use marijuana sold in May, along with $5,526,837 in medical marijuana sales. Combined, the two markets reached $25,094,289 for the month.
The May total represents a slight increase from April, when the state reported $24.8 million in combined marijuana sales. Adult-use sales continued to make up the vast majority of the market, while medical marijuana sales remained relatively steady.
The average price per gram of usable marijuana increased slightly in May after reaching an all-time low in April. The average price was $7.18 per gram in May, up from $7.09 the previous month. However, prices remain sharply lower than a year ago, when the average price was $9.46 per gram. This represents a 24% year-over-year decline.
Connecticut legalized adult-use marijuana in June 2021, with the first licensed recreational sales beginning on January 10, 2023. Adults 21 and older may possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana in public and up to five ounces in a locked container at home or in a vehicle. Recreational marijuana is subject to the state’s 6.35% sales tax, a 3% municipal tax and a THC-based excise tax, while medical marijuana purchases are tax-free.
Through the first five months of 2026, Connecticut’s legal marijuana market has now generated more than $120 million in combined adult-use and medical marijuana sales.
