Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Sales Reach $922 Million in First Half of 2026, Up Nearly $50 Million From 2025

Pennsylvania dispensaries sold more than $922 million worth of medical marijuana during the first half of 2026, an increase of nearly $46 million compared with the same period last year.
New state data shows dispensaries reported $453,302,829 in medical marijuana sales during the first quarter, followed by $469,173,596 during the second quarter. Combined sales for the first six months of the year reached $922,476,425.
During the first half of 2025, dispensaries generated $876,594,042 in sales, including $427,548,280 in the first quarter and $449,045,762 in the second quarter.
This means medical marijuana sales increased by $45,882,383, or approximately 5.2%, during the first half of 2026 compared with the same six-month period in 2025.
The amount of marijuana sold declined despite the increase in revenue. Dispensaries reported selling 17,040,766 units during the first half of 2026, down about 2.8% from 17,536,420 units during the first two quarters of 2025.
Growers and processors sold approximately $296.9 million worth of medical marijuana to dispensaries during the first half of 2026. That was down from about $305.5 million during the same period in 2025.
Pennsylvania legalized medical marijuana when the state’s Medical Marijuana Act was signed into law on April 17, 2016. The state’s first dispensary sales began on February 15, 2018. Registered patients and caregivers may obtain up to a 90-day supply of medical marijuana from licensed dispensaries.
Medical marijuana purchases are exempt from Pennsylvania’s sales and use tax. Growers and processors instead pay a 5% tax on gross receipts from marijuana sold to dispensaries.
