Canopy Growth Expands Medical Marijuana Business Into UK With Four Canadian-Grown Strains

Canopy Growth announced Tuesday that it is expanding its European medical marijuana business into the United Kingdom, with four Canadian-grown flower strains set to be distributed in the country.
The products will be supplied to GROW Group U.K. Ltd., a British pharmaceutical company that imports, manufactures and distributes prescribed cannabis-based medicines across Europe. GROW Group will commercialize the strains in the U.K. under Canopy Growth’s Spectrum Therapeutics medical brand.
Canopy Growth said the launch marks the first introduction of its portfolio products into the U.K. market.
“Expanding availability of our products into the UK is another step in growing our European medical cannabis business and broadening the international reach of our Canadian-grown flower,” said Canopy Growth Chief Executive Officer Luc Mongeau.
Mongeau said the company sees additional opportunities to expand in European medical markets as demand grows and Canopy increases its ability to supply products meeting European manufacturing standards.
The expansion follows the August renewal of European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) certification for Canopy Growth’s cultivation facility in Kincardine, Ontario. The certification allows marijuana grown at the facility to continue being supplied to medical markets across Europe.
Canopy said in August that the Kincardine facility serves as a central part of its European supply chain, connecting Canadian-grown marijuana with European distribution operations through a second EU GMP-certified facility in Sankt Leon-Rot, Germany.
The company has increasingly emphasized international medical marijuana markets as part of its broader business strategy. Canopy reported in August that international cannabis revenue increased 10% year-over-year during the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year.
The U.K. has allowed doctors to prescribe cannabis-based medicines under certain circumstances since 2018, with a growing private medical marijuana market developing in the years since.
