We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Cost Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. This role is critical in providing accurate and actionable insights into our manufacturing and inventory costs across multiple business units. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cost accounting principles, a solid foundation in data management, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Location: This position is Remote with travel expectation approximately 15% to site locations. Candidates are required to reside in the tri-state area (NJ, NY, CT) for occasional in-person team meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform cost and variance analysis for site purchasing and manufacturing operations.
- Assign costs to products based on department-specific drivers and rates.
- Build and maintain robust costing models from the ground up.
- Review and refine existing product costing methodologies to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Calculate and analyze the cost of goods sold (COGS) and product margins.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and identify trends, inefficiencies, and outliers.
- Provide actionable recommendations to improve processes and reduce costs.
- Manage and monitor inventory controls and related accounting processes.
- Partner with operations teams to confirm inventory balances and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in month-end inventory reconciliations and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with Finance and Operations teams to support month-end close processes.
- Partner with site-level and corporate teams to understand operational cost drivers.
- Participate in budgeting and forecasting exercises related to inventory and COGS.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to cost accounting systems and procedures.
- Support automation and standardization of cost reporting across entities.
- Travel up to 15% to manufacturing sites to gain firsthand knowledge of local processes and build relationships with on-site teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a cost accounting role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing and inventory costing methods (e.g., standard costing, job costing).
- Proven ability to build and optimize cost models from scratch.
- Proficient in managing and analyzing large data sets across multiple entities or operating companies.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Experience in the cannabis industry is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders.
