Responsibilities
Develop strategies that reduce crop loss, improve plant health, and improve product quality in cannabis by conducting trials that examine disease incidence, disease spectrum, biosecurity, pest control product efficacy, environmental condition optimization, and post-harvest protocol optimization.
Lead project planning and define experimental objectives, ensure trial implementation, generate and acquire data and information, and analyze and interpret data for global cannabis production optimization.
Work with cultivation, integrated pest management, environmental control, post-harvest, and quality assurance teams within the company on collaborative trial design and implementation. Propose production recommendations once results have been obtained and interpreted.
Coordinate pilot and demonstration trials that support scale up of production recommendations that reduce/eliminate plant diseases, improve plant health, and/or improve product quality.
Monitor research activities and understand the rapidly evolving cannabis industry.
Collaborate and consult with other teams and departments in the company to achieve production goals.
Maintain a high level of awareness and understanding of new developments in plant health, plant pathology, and cannabis production.
Hiring, training, and supervision of technical staff.
Regular reporting and oral presentations to various teams and management.
Routine sample collection and testing.
Identify potential opportunities for new intellectual property.
Other duties as assigned.
Experience
MSc. degree in related field or combination of BSc and practical experience in Cannabis IPM, Agronomy, or related field.
Laboratory experience is an asset.
Demonstrated skills and experience in agricultural extension with a focus on hemp/cannabis is an asset.
