(CSE: JUSH) (OTCQX: JUSHF), we are shaping the future of the cannabis industry. This is a unique opportunity in a complex, intellectually stimulating regulatory environment working alongside hard-working dedicated colleagues inside and outside the legal department.  The Corporate Counsel will work on a variety of the company’s legal matters initially focused on labor and employment matters (including pre- and active litigation), with progressively wider practice area opportunities including developing and reviewing company policies, procedures and training, contract review, data protection and privacy, and more.  The candidate should be an energetic self-starter who is willing to take on projects and can work under pressure within a fast-paced environment and be able to maintain productive relationships with management and the C-Suite.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Work closely with human resources personnel in providing efficient and succinct advice and counsel on a variety of labor and employment matters including but not limited to ADA, FMLA, FLSA, workers compensation, discipline and terminations, union affairs, I-9 compliance and OSHA complaints and investigations
  • Organize and participate in labor negotiations, and provide advice and counsel and training regarding CBAs and other union matters
  • Draft, update and maintain employment agreements for the company including but not limited to executive employment agreements, stock and option agreements, severance agreements and proprietary rights agreements
  • Ensure timely and accurate SEC, CSE and other regulatory filings regarding executive compensation and equity
  • Manage litigation, including preservation notices and holds, discovery, responding to document requests, and calendaring
  • Provide legal support to IT (and the business generally as needed) with regard to cybersecurity, data protection, litigation holds, records management and HIPAA
  • Develop, gain approval for, promulgate, and enforce appropriate company policies and processes to ensure compliance with laws and regulations applicable to its business
  • Provide accurate, cost-effective and timely legal support to the organization including managing risks, conducting investigations and resolving pre-litigation disputes in-house
  • Research legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes
  • Responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and the contract review process, including NDAs, service agreements, vendor and supply agreements, subcontracts, purchase agreements, and financing documents
  • Collaborate with, and closely and efficiently manage outside legal counsel and outside vendors in various legal matters
  • Other tasks, including administrative, that may be assigned
  • WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Active Florida bar license, or ability to obtain authorized house counsel.
  • 5+ years of professional work as a lawyer with at least 3+ years related to labor and employment law
  • In-house counsel experience and/or experience with contract review and management a plus
  • Impeccable attention to detail and pride in one’s work product
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business advice
  • Comfortable spotting issues and escalating to the team when necessary
  • Outstanding writing, research, negotiating, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Adept at technical tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint/Keynote, AI and document sharing and e-signing tools
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • Not above performing administrative tasks relating to legal or compliance assignments as needed
