Job Summary

The Director of Shared Services will be responsible for defining and overseeing a centralized Shared Services function at Verano. This is a highly visible, cross-functional role that will play a key part in transitioning several areas of internal accounting into the corporate office. The role will oversee and lead the day-to-day operations of the Shared Services team encompassing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams. This role will drive process development and deployment, report on key financial data, and maintain centralized accounting records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounts receivable and accounts payable teams, fostering a high-performance culture that emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, and customer service
  • Set clear goals for AR/AP teams, implement standard operating procedures, monitor performance, and implement training to enhance team capabilities
  • Instill a mindset of Continuous Improvement, promoting change that supports Verano initiatives and vision
  • Design and report on KPI metrics to manage functions, identify opportunities, and enhance visibility for business strategies
  • Manage daily operations of AR/AP departments, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and receipts
  • Monitoring of accounts payable and accounts receivable aging reports for accuracy, analyze queues are being managed effectively and efficiently
  • Establish documented policies and procedures, and enforce adherence
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Design and implement process improvements, including standardization, and automation opportunities of existing processes and systems
  • Manage master data elements for vendors and customers including business partners, payment terms, banking information, and credit lines
  • Oversee monthly close process, reporting deliverables, and associated balance sheet reconciliations
  • Delivery weekly reporting requirements
  • Adhere to SOX compliance and control activities including user provisioning, UAT, SIT, and change reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Accounts Payable (AP):

  • Oversee the full AP cycle, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, payments, and related accounting activities
  • Management of the invoice process including PO matching, invoice coding, business approval, monitor rejections, urgent requests, and failed exports
  • Manage the team to execute new vendor setup, vendor terms, and mailbox management
  • Portfolio oversight
  • Payment processing, accurate aging, adherence to weekly payment runs, ACH returns, voided checks, and exception handling
  • Establish processes for recurring payments
  • Develop and implement strategies for direct debits
  • Manage compliance and process of 1099 returns

Accounts Receivable (AR):

  • Oversee the full AR cycle, including invoicing, collections, customer exposure, and cash application
  • Manage the billing process from order completion to invoice delivery
  • Manage the Company’s various AR portfolios in accordance with the appropriate strategy
  • Streamline AR process through automation and process improvement
  • Manage and establish team goals related to collections

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 10+ year(s) of direct financial and/or accounting experience required.
  • 5+ year(s) experience in a shared services/management position with direct reports.
  • Microsoft Office, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel, experience required.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP rules and regulations required.
  • Must have ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues.
  • Must be able to execute and follow through to completion and documentation.

This is an onsite role located at Verano HQ (224 W. Hill St, Chicago IL).
