Job Summary
The Director of Operations Finance plays a critical leadership role within the Finance and Accounting organization, overseeing the financial management, control, and optimization of global inventory and cost of sales. This position provides strategic financial oversight to support operational decision-making, enhance financial performance, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of inventory-related financial reporting across global operations.
The individual in this role will be responsible for the valuation of inventory and biological assets, the determination and reporting of cost of goods sold, and the design and maintenance of robust internal controls related to inventory management. The Director will serve as a key business partner to Supply Chain, Operations, and Corporate Finance, ensuring financial objectives align with business strategy.
This role requires strong leadership capabilities, deep financial acumen, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex global environment. - Provide strategic oversight of all global inventory financial management processes, including policy development, valuation methodologies, and standard costing frameworks that align with corporate financial objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of robust cost accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting, ensuring alignment with corporate financial reporting standards and operational goals.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, and Procurement leadership to assess cost structures, monitor production variances, and drive initiatives that optimize working capital and improve gross margins.
- Direct the preparation of quarterly and annual forecasts, long-range financial plans, and scenario analyses for inventory and COGS performance.
- Establish and enforce internal controls related to inventory, including excess and obsolete provisions, valuation adjustments, and audit compliance requirements.
- Serve as the key liaison for internal and external auditors for all inventory and cost accounting matters, ensuring compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, and company policies.
- Drive financial governance across the global supply chain network, ensuring financial policies and practices are standardized and scalable across geographies.
- Lead the financial analysis of supply chain efficiency projects, capital investments, and operational performance initiatives to ensure alignment with business strategy and ROI expectations.
- Oversee global financial consolidation and reporting of inventory, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements.
- Collaborate with IT and system owners to enhance ERP and financial reporting systems, ensuring integration, accuracy, and automation of data related to inventory and cost tracking.
- Champion continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies, implementing best practices, and leveraging technology to improve accuracy, transparency, and timeliness of reporting.
- Mentor and develop a team of finance professionals, building technical capability, business acumen, and leadership readiness within the organization.
- Represent Operations Finance in cross-functional strategic initiatives, acquisitions, integrations, and large-scale transformation programs.
- Provide senior-level recommendations to executive management on risk mitigation strategies, cost containment opportunities, and investment prioritization.
- Drive a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and financial discipline across global teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance, with 7+ years in a leadership capacity within operations finance, cost accounting, or manufacturing finance.
- Proven experience managing financial operations across multiple global regions and business units.
- Deep and practical understanding of global operations finance, cost accounting, and inventory management, with demonstrated success leading in a complex multinational environment.
- Strong background in inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and financial control processes.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, with the ability to lead system improvement initiatives that strengthen financial control and reporting accuracy.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including advanced Excel skills for modeling and analysis.
- Proven ability to design and implement financial strategies that enhance profitability, operational performance, and long-term value creation.
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with a focus on connecting operational metrics to financial outcomes.
- Strong working knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS and/or US GAAP), financial governance frameworks, and audit processes.
- High level of business and commercial acumen, with the ability to challenge assumptions and influence strategic decisions at the executive level.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and persuasively to non-financial stakeholders.
- Track record of successful leadership in a matrixed global organization, including building alignment across diverse teams and cultures.
- Experience leading change management efforts, including process reengineering and system transformation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire high-performing teams to achieve stretch goals and professional growth.
- Strong organizational capability to manage competing priorities, multiple projects, and tight deadlines under pressure.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance in all aspects of financial management.
